As a Soviet intelligence officer, Stirlitz receives a mission from Moscow. He tries to understand who started separate negotiations with the West.

Stirlitz plans to contact Reichsfuehrer Himmler for intelligence purposes. Having broken the laws of secrecy, he helps his radio operators.

After the death of the radio operator, Stirlitz is left without communication with Moscow. The intelligence officer finds out who from the top of the Reich is negotiating with the West.

Stirlitz makes an appointment with Hitler's secretary, Bormann. The spy reveals his identity to the brother of his deceased comrade, Pleischner.
August 17, 1973
Stirlitz orders Schlag to contact pacifists in Switzerland. The Gestapo gets hold of a transmitter with radio operator Kat's fingerprints.
August 18, 1973
Pleischner goes to Bern with a report for Moscow from Stirlitz. Gestapo chief Müller decides to secretly take fingerprints from employees.
August 19, 1973
Officer Holtoff informs Stirlitz that he is in the sights of the Gestapo. Stirlitz smuggles Schlag across the Swiss border.
August 21, 1973
Schlag meets with politicians and church representatives. Gestapo agent Rolf interrogates Kat, and Müller intends to capture Stirlitz.
August 22, 1973
The soldier guarding Kat kills Rolf and escapes with her. Stirlitz seeks an explanation for why his fingerprints are on Kat's suitcase.
August 23, 1973
Müller offers Stirlitz assistance in negotiations with Bormann. Stirlitz tries to take Kat, who is wanted by the police, out of Germany.
August 24, 1973
Stirlitz reports to Moscow about the negotiations between General Wolf and American diplomat Dulles. Bormann intends to arrest Wolf.
